This April, A Better Start Southend comes to the midway point in our 10 year National Community Lottery Fund programme, working together to give Southend’s children the best start in life. To mark the occasion, there will be two celebration events!

On Tuesday 21st April, A Better Start Southend will join the other four A Better Start sites funded by The National Lottery Community Fund, at a national event in London facilitated by the National Children’s Bureau. The event will focus on sharing the learning the five partnerships have curated from the first five years of the project, as well as celebrating the individual successes of each site. It is expected that colleagues from Southend-on-Sea Borough Council, SAVS, Family Action, Southend YMCA, Southend University Hospital, Southend Clinical Commissioning Group, Essex Partnership University Foundation Trust (EPUT) and Parent Champions will be in attendance to represent Southend, and share in the celebrations.

We will also be hosting a local event in Southend on Friday 17th April at SAVS, Alexandra Street from 3-6pm, to enable professionals and parents to come along and mark the exciting milestone for our local programme, which will coincide with the launch of our new Parent, Family and Community Hub at SAVS. You can read more about this event, and book your FREE tickets here.

To date, 2426 children and expectant parents have directly benefitted from the A Better Start Southend programme, which has had a fantastic impact on families that have been engaged. You can read some Impact Statements from families here. The next five years of the programme will focus on broadening our reach across A Better Start Southend wards, continuing to work in partnership with parents and partner organisations to support Southend’s families in innovative and imaginative programmes, sharing learning and developing the ABSS ‘Case for Change’ sustainability and legacy plan.
