Being a Parent

Being a Parent is one of the two courses (along with Baby and Us) which together comprise the Empowering Parents, Empowering Communities (EPEC) programme. EPEC aims to ensure children have positive social and emotional wellbeing, a nurturing and loving family environment and an enriched early years’ experience, leading to positive, supportive, safe secure relationships.

Commissioned from the South London and Maudsley NHS Trust (SLAM), Being a Parent is an evidence-based, peer-led universal primary prevention programme which is suitable for mothers and fathers of children who are aged 1-3 years. The eight week programme is designed to improve parent-child relationships and interactions as well as increase parental confidence in their parenting abilities. It also aims to promote a lasting change in how mothers and fathers understand themselves, and their children, creating happier families.

The Being a Parent programme runs in the four children’s centres in ABSS areas (Cambridge Road, Centre Place, Friars and Summercourt).
