We have joined up with the Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (EPUT) to offer our new Mindful Mums & Babies service for mums and babies (up to 12 months) within A Better Start areas. The six week course explores thoughts and feelings around low mood, anxiety and wellbeing in mums within a safe, non-judgmental environment.

Mindful Mums and Babies, which is jointly run by both  Specialist Health Visitor and a qualified therapist, provides families with support via a range of means, including discussion, peer support and wellbeing focused information. Sessions on the free course are divided into two parts, with the first half consisting of discussion, peer support and information focusing on your wellbeing, while the second half is dedicated to spending special time with your child through fun and enjoyable activities.

The Specialist Health Visitors are hoping this new option will provide a welcoming place for parents to access additional support with the sometimes difficult emotional adjustment to being a parent.

Groups supporting emotional wellbeing have a positive impact on mums, and comments following groups include:

‘I’ve developed an understanding of what I can manage and I am not so hard on myself.’

‘The group has given me so much support and friendship, allowing me to meet others who feel the same.’

Parents within ABSS wards who express an interest in the course will be asked to commit to the full six weeks in order to get the most out of the sessions.

If this course feels suited to you, please email epunft.perinatalhvs@nhs.net for more information, or drop by the Valkyrie Surgery and pick up a leaflet Valkyrie HV Team Office, Valkyrie PCC, 50 Valkyrie Road, SS0 8BU.
