Family Support Workers for Social Communication Needs

A Better Start Southend has joined up with the Early Years Alliance and the Southend-on-Sea Borough Council Early Years SEN Team to provide Family Support Workers for Speech Language and Communication Needs.

The project provides a service for families in the ABSS areas whose child is currently on the Multidisciplinary Assessment waiting list and with concerns around development in (at least) two of these areas: communication; interaction; imaginative play.

Offering support and advice such as telephone guidance, home visits and accompanying to appointments, our small team of Family Support Workers come with personal experience of parenting children with social and communication needs in the local area.

Their experience as parents alongside their professional training they have received will enable them to help you in the best way possible.

The project offers:

  • A peer support service
  • Telephone/email contact
  • Home visits
  • Community visits
  • Flexible service to best meet your needs
  • Signposting
  • Information and advice

If you have any questions or would like any further information, please contact Helen Smith-Vicary on 07918 223834 or email (working hours 8am-5pm Mon, Tue, Thurs, Fri).
