In addition to the research that is being undertaken by Activmob around nutrition and healthy eating, we also have further Big Lottery Funded research over the next month (to early November), finding out people’s views on their neighbourhood and services for families of children from pregnancy to a child’s fourth birthday.

This community insight is being led by Britain’s largest independent social research agency NatCen Social Research, with fieldwork being carried out by expert provider Public Knowledge. This independent research will help inform the Better Start partnership on local views about how local services can be improved to better help children and families in the Southend area. The research is following on from the successful pilot survey of 40 interviews that took place in August.

Interviewers will canvass families in all six A Better Start wards of Kursaal, Milton, Shoeburyness, Victoria, Westborough and West Shoebury. The confidential interviews take around 20 minutes, with participation voluntary for families, though those taking part will be remunerated with a £5 voucher. Families will also be given an information sheet about the A Better Start Southend programme during the course of their interview.

If you have any questions about the NatCen surveys or would like to find out more please contact or call the A Better Start team on 01702 356050.
