We are delighted to announce new Baby and Us and Being a Parent courses beginning in October.

The two courses together comprise the Empowering Parents, Empowering Communities (EPEC) programme. EPEC aims to ensure children have positive social and emotional wellbeing, a nurturing and loving family environment and an enriched early years’ experience, leading to positive, supportive, safe secure relationships.

Originally commissioned from the South London and Maudsley NHS Trust (SLAM), we are delighted to now be able to recommission the programme.

Baby and Us is a nine week evidence-based, peer-led, primary prevention parenting programme for parents of infants 0-8months. The programme aims to enable parents to acquire new knowledge, personal skills and social support to improve adaptation to early parenthood.

Being a Parent is an eight week evidence-based, peer-led universal primary prevention programme which is suitable for mothers and fathers of children who are aged 1-3 years. Designed to improve parent-child relationships and interactions as well as increase parental confidence in their parenting abilities. It also aims to promote a lasting change in how mothers and fathers understand themselves, and their children, creating happier families.

The initial Being a Parent course will run in Centre Place Family Centre from 1st October, while Baby and Us will take place at Cambridge Road Children’s Centre. The initial courses run from October to early December, with a break for half-term. Future courses will run in children’s centres in A Better Start areas, so be sure to keep your eyes out for when new courses are announced.
