August is a big month for A Better Start Southend as we move into our new location in the centre of Southend with our friends at SAVS. SAVS have been running our new co-production project with parents and our new home has been chosen with parents and under 4s at the forefront of our minds.

Located just off the High Street on Alexandra Street, our new home is being renovated for our arrival with a fresh new look and facilities for parents who are working with us on co-production. The building will be fully open in all areas by the end of August.

The newly modified areas include a designated parents’ space (for the first time in the programme) with a crèche area as well as an outdoor space with a balcony and covered area on the 1st floor for families to enjoy. Additionally, there will also be a large meeting room with storage room annex as well as a staff office.

We will be celebrating our move into the building with a celebration event in September, highlighting the work we are doing and our future work and we will look to spread the message of our new projects too. Look out for any further announcements about the move and the space in the newsletter, here on our website or our Facebook page!

Debbie Payne, Programme Manager for A Better Start Southend, says: “It’s such an exciting move for the programme. To be in the heart of Southend, with parents given the space and facilities to help get their ideas to improve local children’s futures into action is something we are delighted about. We are looking forward to sharing a building with SAVS and strengthening our co-production.”

Alison Semmence, Chief Executive Officer of SAVS, says “This is a great opportunity for A Better Start Southend to be at the heart of the local community, we are excited for the team to be joining us and giving the parents an opportunity to use the parent hub for co-production work.”
