We have excellent community engagement news with the re-launch of the A Better Start Southend and Family Action ‘Ward Panels’ at an event taking place on Tuesday 16th July from 1pm-3pm at the ABSS Community Hub located in the SAVS building, 29-31 Alexandra Street, SS1 1BW.

The refreshed Ward Panels bring A Better Start Southend community meetings together with Family Action Steering Meetings to unify the community’s focus around children’s services in the local area. The Ward Panels will focus on a particular theme each meeting, as well as enabling local services, residents and groups to share their view on what matters most in Early Years and allow suggestions the potential to develop through the ABSS governance process.

The Ward Panels, which take place every two months, are designed to provide a voice to the local community in A Better Start Southend areas in all areas relating to families with young children and expectant parents. The panels provide key stakeholders in local services, community groups and residents a positive and productive forum to discuss important issues, our successes, and ways of shaping the future.

The relaunch event, held in an informal atmosphere, will introduce people to A Better Start Southend and Family Action and the concept of the Ward Panels, highlight local updates from ABSS Parent Champions, introduce and discuss the Integrated Family Centre Hub pilot project. Attendees will also have the chance to highlight their organisation’s/group’s biggest need relating to early years services and provision in Southend-on-Sea, as well as ask questions to A Better Start Southend and Family Action and network with others with a shared interested in providing the best possible services for Southend-on-Sea’s young children.

The newly refreshed Ward Panels will offer an update on local relevant activity for local families and communities and act as a forum to share information, with a dedicated hour for discussion on a ‘theme’ (decided by the panel, in the previous meeting). The panels take place in the three localities:

  • Cluster (ABSS Milton, Westborough and Victoria Wards joined with Family Action Central Advisory Board) – next meeting: 11/09/2019 10am-12noon at Summercourt Children’s Centre
