The A Better Start Southend ‘Weekend Talk Tips’ – delivered by the ABSS Communication and Language team – first went live at the end of April 2019, with the introduction of a WhatsApp group aimed at parents, carers and Early Years Practitioners across Southend (as well as other First and Foremost project sites in the UK). Six months later, the tips are being received by almost 250 parents and Early Years Practitioners!

The WhatsApp group aims to support and develop children’s speech, language and communication skills in a fun and engaging way, by providing parents and carers with practical methods to support and develop their child’s language development.

Each Weekend Talk Tip is topical and current and includes a top tip for talk and a linked activity for families and Early Years settings to enjoy with their children. These include making a ‘Discovery Box’ making art with leaves, creating a Bird Feeder from a Pumpkin and much more!

Thirty weekends after the first Weekend Talk Tip was sent, the group has grown exponentially, with 246 parents and Early Years Practitioners signed up and taking part in the fun. If you would like to find out more information, or want to join the group, please contact sian.ansell@eyalliance.org.uk or lynsey.weston@eyalliance.org.uk.

Once registered, you will be added to the group which follows GDPR guidelines. Your telephone number will not be shared with any other group member, and will be hidden from view. Come and join in the fun!
