Parent Champion’s Journeys

Parent champions are individuals who possess a deep-seated desire to make a meaningful difference in their communities, representing each of the ABSS wards. They are catalysts for change, fostering trust and connection in our communities.

Over the years, parents have come together to build lasting and supportive relationships within their neighbourhoods, going beyond formal interactions, and creating a sense of belonging and solidarity. The following pages represent their reflections on being Parent Champions, how they have become empowered, and a positive impact on the A Better Start programme.

Parent Champion’s Research Report

A group of 11 Parent Champions took part in a Participatory Action Research project to explore the impact A Better Start Southend has had on their journeys, in addition to the impact they have had on their community. Empowering each individual, Parent Champions have produced the following research report to assist other communities in shaping their services through the voice of parents.

Parent Champion Storybooks

A small cohort of Parent Champions have created storybooks that reflect their journeys with A Better Start Southend. These storybooks acted as a central discussion point for their Participatory Action Research.
